Greenhouse Plants is based on my reflection on the dynamics of family relationships. I made a set of ‘perfect’ traditional vessels to serve as a warm and cozy flower house, which suggests the ideal love of parents for their children. The plants form inside the vessels represent children who want to break free from the ornate greenhouse. The fantastical glasshouse protects the plant but also restricts and bounds it. It's a metaphor for the fact that overprotection may not be what plants need or even want; they aspire to respire and grow, freely and unconstrained by the glass walls and ceilings. The work is autobiographical and is a response to my own family relationship. The relationship was tight and suffocating but with distance there is more space to breathe and understand each other.
